What Are the Information LIteracy Skills Needed by Early Learners to be Successful in School?

Keller, Cynthia (2005, November). What Are the Information Literacy Skills Needed by Early Learners to be Successful in School?. School Library Media Activities Monthly 22 (3), 55-58.

In this article, Cynthia Keller recommends that School Library Media Specialists should take an active role and be familiar with standards for early years (pre-k). Standards for children below kindergarten age have been set in 42 states. Keller's (2005) article points out that if these early childhood standards are linked closer with K-12 expectations, then "educators, families and other community members can see the learning opportunities and positive long-term outcomes" (p. 55).
